The Bigscreen Beyond is setting a new standard in the VR world. This ultra-compact, super-light SteamVR headset is crafted specifically for those who enjoy extended, comfortable VR experiences on a PC.
Starting at a price point of $1,000, or $32 a month if you choose a payment plan, the Beyond headset requires some additional gear to get the full experience. Out of the box, you’ll find that it doesn’t include positional tracking or controllers. Since it relies on the SteamVR tracking system, you’ll need at least one base station, though two would be ideal, along with your own controllers such as Valve Index.
The headset is designed with a simple cloth strap and lacks built-in audio. Interestingly, there’s no headphone jack either. However, it does come with a USB-C port you can use for audio devices. For those looking to enhance the audio experience and comfort, Bigscreen offers an Audio Strap accessory priced at $130.
In our review of the Beyond, we appreciated its small size and exceptional comfort, making those long VR hours much more pleasant without the usual face fatigue other headsets tend to cause. Nonetheless, we did notice some drawbacks, particularly with the lenses that aim to be compact yet result in unwanted reflections and blurring. In its quest for comfort, Beyond is paving the way for future headsets, with many expected to follow suit.
