Disney’s Strange World is hands down one of their most overlooked gems. This action-packed adventure dives into that classic Disney theme of generational trauma, showcasing the Clade family’s journey across three generations. Each family member carries their own vision of what their legacy should be. As the grandfather, father, and son navigate their personal beliefs, the film delivers jaw-droppingly beautiful animation, though sadly, not enough people saw it in theaters.
Drawing inspiration from adventure classics like Indiana Jones, Strange World weaves in a meaningful environmental message, set against the backdrop of an awe-inspiring alien universe. The world they explore is a feast for the eyes, filled with exotic landscapes, vibrant characters, and bizarre creatures that truly live up to the film’s name. Despite the eccentric setting, the core conflicts feel deeply human. The Clade family’s efforts to understand each other push them into dangerous, uncharted territories, forcing them to confront the obvious truths they’ve overlooked.
Unfortunately, Disney dropped the ball on marketing this masterpiece, resulting in one of the biggest financial flops in box office history. If you have a Disney+ subscription, do yourself a favor and watch it. It’s an absolute blast and deserved so much more recognition.
