Riot Games, the minds behind League of Legends, have announced a firm stance against content creators who step out of line even beyond their gaming platforms. Starting January 3rd, they’re cracking down on creators who, for instance, resort to using slurs or offensive language when Riot’s games are featured in their content. This move is part of a new update to their ‘Off-Platform Conduct’ policy.
Riot explained their motivation behind this change, stating, “We aim to safeguard our players from negative behaviors they might encounter in different aspects of their gaming journey.” They clarified that this update will specifically target content where Riot’s games are in the spotlight. Although they won’t actively scour social media, they now have the authority to implement in-game penalties if inappropriate conduct is reported. For example, if a creator hurls hateful slurs at a teammate or opponent on their stream, even if it doesn’t happen in-game chat or voice comms, Riot can still impose penalties as though it did.
