Renowned for its portable gaming devices, Ayaneo has recently unveiled its latest top-of-the-line handheld console, the Ayaneo 3. Building on the strengths of its popular predecessor, this new model retains the familiar shape and button layout but introduces several key hardware upgrades.
As detailed on the Ayaneo blog, this new console gives buyers a choice between an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor and the more robust AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. The Ayaneo 3 also boasts a seven-inch high-refresh-rate LCD or OLED HDR screen, promising a truly immersive gaming experience. To enhance user control, Ayaneo has added two extra buttons on the back of the device.
However, there’s still much we don’t know about the Ayaneo 3, as the company has yet to announce additional details such as RAM, storage, and pricing. For reference, the Ayaneo 2, which preceded it, was offered with RAM options of either 16GB or 32GB and storage options of 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Pricing for the Ayaneo 2 started at $1,099, climbing to $1,549 for the limited-edition B.Duck version. Based on these figures, it’s reasonable to expect the Ayaneo 3 will be in a similar range but possibly at a slightly higher price point.
The Ayaneo 3 marks one of the first handheld consoles to incorporate the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. This chipset is equipped with an NPU that, while not commonly utilized by current gaming titles, features four additional cores, a Zen 5 architecture, and an integrated AMD Radeon 890M GPU. These innovations provide significantly more power compared to the Ryzen 7 8840U processor and even some of the top PC gaming handhelds that are primarily powered by the Ryzen Z1 Extreme.
The Ayaneo 3 enters a competitive market brimming with stellar options. We anticipate the arrival of the ROG Ally 2, MSI Claw 8 AI+, and Lenovo Legion Go Gen Two towards the end of this year or the beginning of 2025. It remains to be seen how the Ayaneo 3 will stand out in this crowded field and what unique experiences it will bring to handheld gaming enthusiasts.
