Stress Level Zero’s sandbox adventure BONELAB (2022) has made quite an impact on Quest, but many fans have been eagerly waiting for the award-winning physics action puzzler BONEWORKS (2019) to join Meta’s latest standalone hardware generation. Well, it seems that wait is coming to an end soon.
For those unfamiliar with Boneworks, it’s a narrative-driven VR action experience that leverages cutting-edge physics mechanics. The game pushes players to explore environments, engage in combat, and solve intricate puzzles—all while relying heavily on realistic physics interactions. If you’ve yet to experience it on a PC VR headset, you’re in for a treat.
In a recent post on X, studio co-founder Brandon Laatsch laid out several ambitious goals for 2025. He mentioned upcoming patches for their Marrow Engine physics framework, specifically designed for the Unity engine, as well as the much-anticipated release of Boneworks on Quest 3 and Quest 3S.

In the post, Laatsch detailed plans for releasing Patch 7, 8, and 9 for Bonelab, integrating Marrow Engine versions 2, 2.1, and 2.2. He emphasized that Boneworks for Quest 3 is being developed concurrently with these updates and that the team is beginning pre-production on their next exciting project. By leveraging Marrow’s capabilities, they aim to overcome compatibility challenges with Boneworks, which are no small feat. Best of luck to the team at Stress Level Zero!
An interesting tidbit here: Quest users already have a way to enjoy Boneworks on Quest 2 and newer models, thanks to a community-driven mod called ‘Labworks.’ Despite this, Laatsch reassures that the studio won’t take down Labworks, a mod that indie creator ‘volx64’ spent two years developing. He explained that the move to a native Quest 3 version with Marrow Engine will offer significantly more than just a simple port.
Although we don’t have a concrete release date yet, we’re eagerly watching Laatsch’s updates on X and keeping tabs on the studio’s YouTube channel for any new developments. Stay tuned!
