Right now, BioWare, the well-known game development company, operates with less than 100 employees on its roster.
According to a Bloomberg report, the studio’s workforce has dramatically shrunk, more than halving from over 200 employees to its current size in just a couple of years. One major factor contributing to this decrease was last week’s announcement that the company would be laying off some of its staff. This move is part of BioWare’s efforts to slim down and direct its resources towards the next installment of the Mass Effect series. Unfortunately, this strategic shift affected several team members, including writer Trick Weekes and producer Jenn Cheverie.
Additionally, another component of this restructuring has involved temporarily assigning BioWare employees to work at other Electronic Arts (EA) studios.
However, it seems employees believed these assignments were only temporary, not realizing they might turn into permanent detours from BioWare.
BioWare’s general manager, Gary McKay, explained the situation, stating, “Given this stage of development, we don’t require support from the full studio.”
He added, “We have incredible talent here at BioWare, and so we have worked diligently over the past few months to match many of our colleagues with other teams at EA that had open roles that were a strong fit.” This decision underscores the studio’s dedication to finding suitable positions for their talented staff within EA.
