You’ve read that right—PlayStation Network (PSN) is currently down. This outage affects both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, meaning you’ll have to hit pause on your gaming plans for now.
As of the latest update, the only official word from Sony comes via the Ask PlayStation Japan Twitter account. Here’s what they tweeted (translated with Twitter’s built-in tool):
“At this time, the PlayStation â„¢ Network (including PlayStation ® Store) may not be available. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers. We are currently investigating the issue and working to restore service, so please be patient.”
In other words, Sony is aware of the issue but hasn’t provided a timeline for when the network will be back up. So, for now, all we can do is cross our fingers and hope it’s not a long wait. The timing couldn’t be worse, either—it’s the weekend, a prime time for gaming. Plus, the Monster Hunter Wilds Open beta is happening right now, meaning Xbox and PC players are diving in, while those on PlayStation are left out in the cold.
Even if you weren’t planning to try out Monster Hunter, the weekend is when many of us finally get some quality gaming in, especially those of us tied up with work during the week. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this outage is brief so we can all get back to our favorite virtual worlds.
