A major holiday sale on the PSVR 2 this year gave the headset a significant boost on Amazon US. Amazingly, the sales figures were nearly five times higher than the previous year.
During the Black Friday and festive season, PSVR 2’s Horizon bundle was slashed down by a striking 42%, bringing the price from $550 to just $350.
This huge discount naturally sparked an impressive surge in sales, exceeding expectations considerably. When compared to 2023, there was a nearly fivefold increase in peak sales for the 2024 holiday period on Amazon US.
It’s worth mentioning that the headset didn’t enjoy any significant sales boost during the 2023 holiday season. Now, you might assume a price cut would just attract proportionally more buyers—say, a 50% price drop leading to 50% more sales. But in reality, PSVR 2’s sales response to reduced pricing paints a very different picture.
Sony launched this sale before Black Friday and let it run all the way into the new year. This extended discount period suggests they may have been clearing out inventory, possibly in anticipation of a new SKU, like a fresh bundle or a cost-effective redesign. Some have speculated this means Sony is losing interest in the PSVR 2 and wants a quick sell-off before phasing it out. However, our take is that Sony will likely keep selling the headset at least until the next console era kicks in, even if they’re not all in on it right now.
