A fresh mod for the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth offers gamers a stylish way to switch up Cloud’s wardrobe, letting him don the ensemble he sported during his first appearance in Kingdom Hearts. This means players can dress Cloud in a red cape, a striking black wing, and the uniquely bandaged Buster Sword. If you’re inclined to try it out, this mod is now available for download on PC.
In Kingdom Hearts, Cloud’s style mimicked the mysterious Vincent Valentine, notably wrapping the Buster Sword in bandages from handle to tip, giving it a distinctive look. While other characters like Squall played the role of guides for Sora on his Keyblade journey, Cloud’s introduction was a little less friendly, starring as an antagonist under Hades’ command during battles in the Olympus Colosseum. By the time Kingdom Hearts 2 rolled around, Cloud’s wardrobe saw a transformation to the outfit found in Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children.
It’s been about a month since Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth made its debut on PC, and this mod has quickly gained traction among fans eager to revisit Cloud’s Kingdom Hearts look. Brought to life by a modder named ColossalCake, it can be found on NexusMods. To get everything running smoothly, you’ll also need another mod titled “Loveless Outfits – Individual” by Ninjagrime.
According to ColossalCake, the mod adds a unique placement for the bandages on the Buster Sword, positioning them at the top of the blade. Unlike the usual right-side tilt, the Buster Sword hangs vertically on Cloud’s back in this mod, which might cause some cinematic moments where Cloud misses grabbing the sword. However, during battles or whenever it’s not placed on his back, the sword snaps into place just as you’d expect. Furthermore, for those who want to explore different looks, the mod includes two variations of Cloud’s outfit—with or without the dramatic black wing. The assets for Cloud’s Kingdom Hearts look come from Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, where it was featured as his alternate Sky-Soarer costume.
While recent Kingdom Hearts games have scaled back on featuring characters from the Final Fantasy universe, fans are hopeful that Square Enix might bring them back into the spotlight for Kingdom Hearts 4. Whether Cloud and his fellow Final Fantasy heroes will return in future installments remains to be seen.
