In Monster Hunter Wilds, the elusive dapperwings are a fascinating flying creature you’ll need to capture for the side quest “Samin’s Research Report.” This task is part of the research efforts at the Windward Plains base camp, and comes on the heels of the earlier quest “Dareel’s Research Report,” which involved snagging tracktail lizards.
We’re here to guide you through finding and capturing these charming dapperwings, making sure you successfully complete this quest.
Finding Dapperwings in Monster Hunter Wilds
Your first stop on the hunt for dapperwings is the lush Scarlet Forest. A highly recommended starting point is around the pop-up camp in the Bower of the Great Tree, located in Area 7. We moved on from there to Area 6, where we discovered three promising dapperwing spots.
These creatures are typically found in groups and enjoy hanging out on fallen trees and branches. During our search, we spotted plenty of them during daytime, and their bird-like calls serve as a helpful clue to their whereabouts. A pro-tip? Head east from the marker “6” on your map and keep an eye—well, and an ear—out for our feathered friends.
Capturing a Dapperwing in Monster Hunter Wilds
After spotting the dapperwings, the next step is capturing them. Equip your capture net through the item bar or your Essential Items menu. If reaching them seems tricky, hop on your trusty Seikret to elevate your position and aim your capture net.
Approach with caution! While they’re not as skittish as the ground-bound tracktail lizards, slow movements are crucial to avoid startling them. As you get nearer, keep an eye on the rectangle reticle. Once it shifts to a yellow-orange hue, that’s your cue to fire your net.
Don’t forget: It’s vital that you press L2/LT instead of the typical square/X.
By completing “Samin’s Research Report,” you’ll receive a variety of rewards: ten blue mushrooms, five honey, 50 guild points, alongside experience boosts for both your hunter rank and palico level. Happy hunting!
