Yorutouge offers a fascinating dive into a psychedelic Vocaloid rave world, set within the engaging platform of VRChat.
Brought to life by VR_SMEJ and inspired by the music of Vocaloid composer Kikuo, this immersive experience delivers a vibrant, continuous 20-minute rave. The VRChat world is designed to uplift and provide a comical escape for those feeling bogged down by everyday life. As explained by the creators, the goal was to create a “manic stopping point” — a place for visitors to shake off that murky, heavy feeling.
During my recent experience at the NewImages Festival 2025, through the XR Market, I had the chance to delve into this captivating world. Part of the XR Competition, Yorutouge was one of 14 standout projects, and I joined four other participants on this unique journey. Things kick off in a fantastical cave, promptly evolving into a surreal audiovisual extravaganza. The journey includes five high-energy tracks with Kikuo taking center stage as the DJ.
What truly captivates me is the way the stunning visual effects envelop the entire environment. It’s a spectacle that far exceeds your average disco, a brilliant and unpredictable rollercoaster for the senses. However, a word of caution — those with epilepsy should proceed with care. The music pulses with energy, creating a fantastic vibe, all supported by a series of intricately designed settings that constantly surprise and engage.
