Overwatch 2 recently introduced a new game mode called Stadium, and honestly, I’m hooked.
Stadium matches unfold over up to seven rounds, where players dive into different modes using a select part of the main Overwatch roster. The interesting twist? After each round, you earn cash to buy items, borrowing a concept from MOBAs.
This mode shakes up the game significantly, thanks to a variety of items, powers, and passives that blend and bolster each other. For added excitement, it even includes a third-person perspective.
If you’re new to Stadium mode, you might not have the time to sift through the seemingly endless list of Overwatch 2 Stadium perks and abilities. I’ve checked out a lot of "best build guides" for Moira online, and frankly, many are lacking. So, here’s my take on building Moira, complete with some handy tips. It’s a much more effective approach.
Best Overwatch 2 Stadium Moira Powers
Round 1: Cross-Orbal
[Biotic Orb] launches another orb of the opposite type with half the capacity.
Round 3: Multiball
[Biotic Orb] sends out two extra orbs of your chosen type, but with reduced effectiveness.
Round 5: Optimal Overflow
Spend 50 [Biotic Energy] to unleash the last selected orb with slightly less duration.
Round 7: Phantasm
Using [Fade], you spawn a stationary copy of the last orb with reduced duration.
Moira is often seen as a villainous support hero, notorious for her damage potential. Her orbs and Biotic Grasp make her user-friendly for players who might not have pinpoint aim (like me), given their area-of-effect potential. On consoles, this means you can speed up your joystick without losing accuracy, typical of hitscan heroes.
At her core, she’s a support character, and this setup gives you a strong balance of healing and offense.
The strategy is to launch Biotic Orbs continuously. The initial ability adds pressure by allowing simultaneous healing and damage. Further upgrades add more orbs to your mix, perfect for both support and offense. This build excels on maps with narrow pathways and choke points, where you can overwhelm weaker DPS and support heroes by firing off orbs and swiftly vanishing.
Items also amplify this build’s power, enhancing ability strength and extending orb range.
Best Overwatch 2 Stadium Moira Items
Nano Cola
+20% Ability Power, boosting Moira’s primary orb functions.
Smart Orbs
+5% Ability Power. Orbs travel slower while affecting targets, good for tracking enemies or allies but can be tricky for longer throws.
Extendrils
+10% Ability Power, +30% Orb Range. Greater reach equals more terror.
Champion’s Kit
+40% Ability Power. Costly, but worth it in long games, potentially doubling your power.
Liquid Nitrogen
+25 Health, +10% Ability Power, slowing enemies’ movement when damaged. This pairs well with Smart Orbs to continuously snare opponents, which can be comedic and is likely in line for a nerf.
These items focus on enhancing Moira’s ability power, crucial for both damage and healing. While the four items are key, there’s flexibility to adapt based on your style.
After amplifying Moira’s multiball abilities, identify vulnerable targets and flood them with orbs. Smart Orbs help track aerial targets like Mercy, keeping the pressure on. Pairing Liquid Nitrogen with Smart Orbs effectively freezes aggressive foes like Genji, likely exacerbating their frustration — until adjustments are made.
Stacking ability power items boosts your impact throughout a match and turns Moira’s ultimate into a devastating force. Launch a barrage of orbs and unleash your ultimate to decimate teams in seconds.
Overwatch 2 Stadium is Surprisingly Awesome
Overwatch 2’s Stadium Mode has been an unexpected delight. It builds on the game’s existing perk systems and brings in some much-needed character customization, even if we have to wait to see it perfected.
While balance needs work — some characters feel overpowered, while others could use a boost — it’s clear that Overwatch 2 continues to impress its players, even years after its original release.
Stadium Mode is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC. Enjoy the game!
