Two years after its debut, “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” is getting a fresh wave of excitement with the introduction of five new amiibo. These were introduced during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event, which highlighted what players can anticipate from the new console, including upgrades for existing Switch titles like Tears of the Kingdom.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to be backward compatible, allowing players to continue enjoying many of their favorite Switch games. But it doesn’t stop there; the new console will also enhance a variety of titles, upgrading their graphics and adding exciting new features. Among the games receiving this upgrade is Tears of the Kingdom, which will be supported by new amiibo.
Nintendo has unveiled five new amiibo for Tears of the Kingdom, featuring the sages who aid Link on his quest: Tulin, Yunobo, Riju, Sidon, and Mineru. The first four are launching alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 and its game patches on June 5. Mineru, whose amiibo captures her construct form, is set to arrive at a later date.
So, what should gamers expect from these new Tears of the Kingdom amiibo? Just like previous versions, they can be scanned to unlock in-game items like weapons, materials, and even a fabric for Link’s paraglider. The exact items available are still under wraps. While pricing hasn’t been revealed, the initial set of four is likely to align with standard amiibo pricing, ranging around $20-30 USD. However, the Mineru amiibo appears larger, suggesting a slightly higher price tag.
During the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, there wasn’t a strong focus on amiibo functionalities, but Nintendo confirmed its ongoing commitment to them. Besides the Zelda series, Street Fighter fans have something to look forward to, with amiibo being released to mark the launch of Street Fighter 6 on the Switch 2. This includes three amiibo figures and 22 amiibo cards, all available on the console’s release day. With amiibo’s history of high demand, securing pre-orders might be the best strategy for collectors eager to add these to their lineup.
