Ancient Dungeon VR, the beloved rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has recently unveiled a much-anticipated update for PSVR 2, adding the thrilling feature of multiplayer co-op.
Originally hitting the scene in 2021 via Steam Early Access and the old App Lab for Quest, Ancient Dungeon was crafted as a solo journey. Players would navigate over 20 hours of labyrinth-like dungeons, engaging in physics-driven battles against blocky wizards, skeletons, and other familiar foes from the world of Dungeons & Dragons.
By mid-2024, both the Quest and SteamVR iterations had introduced four-player co-op. However, PSVR 2 had missed out on this feature when it launched on that platform in December 2023.
Fast forward to now, the game’s developer, Eric Thullen, has finally rolled out the eagerly awaited multiplayer update for PSVR 2. This update lets up to four players embark together through the game’s procedurally-generated dungeons, facing traps and enemies in a cooperative setting.
Although cross-play isn’t yet available on the game’s various platforms, Thullen addressed this in a Reddit Q&A, stating that cross-play between Quest and PC VR is “coming at a later date.”
Ancient Dungeon stands out as one of VR’s notable indie triumphs. It first gained momentum following a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020, which was soon followed by a highly praised beta, amassing over 1,000 reviews with a stellar rating of [4.8/5].
Almost five years on, the game continues to evolve, consistently rolling out updates that introduce new weapons, cosmetic items, insight upgrades, dungeon floors, and relics. All of these enhancements are slated to be integrated ahead of the game’s major 1.0 release, which, as noted in a Steam update from the team, is still on the horizon.
Players eager to dive into Ancient Dungeon VR can find it available on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, all set at a price of $20.
