In Assassin’s Creed Shadows, players can expect to invest countless hours wandering through the vast landscapes of central Japan. The journey across the picturesque countryside will no longer require undivided attention, thanks to a newly introduced—or rather, reintroduced—feature in the game’s first significant update.
This Tuesday morning update, known as version 1.0.2, has been rolled out on all platforms. It fine-tunes the “pathfinder” feature for the character’s mount, making it far more intuitive. Now, your horse can autonomously navigate the roads using the game’s turn-by-turn directions to guide Naoe or Yasuke to their next destination. This handy auto-follow feature was part and parcel of earlier Assassin’s Creed titles like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, making its initial absence in Shadows quite puzzling. (But don’t worry, if you prefer the reins in your own hands, you can opt to steer manually.)
The update also improves the game’s photo mode by eliminating the GPS line that previously appeared on roads in your screenshots. Along with this, horse speeds have been ramped up when you’re trotting through urban areas.
For those who love efficient gameplay, the update brings another welcome change. Players can now sell or dismantle loot in bulk—just select multiple items in the shop or Forge screen to clear them in one swift move. Stepping outside the Forge, you’ll find that Ubisoft Québec has lifted the frame rate cap in the Hideout, allowing it to exceed 30 frames per second. For PlayStation 5 Pro users, graphical enhancements continue, thanks to the addition of support for Sony’s Spectral Super Resolution.
The patch also provides more flexibility in managing skills. You can now reset single Mastery nodes within Naoe’s and Yasuke’s skill trees, offering a more tailored experience than the previous full-tree reset. To make things even smoother, there’s a new shortcut: simply hold the Options/Menu button to quickly access the game’s streamlined objective board.
Interestingly, the v1.0.2 update leaves one thing untouched—the legendary tanto, Igan Sunset, remains as powerful as ever. Its impressive perk, especially when paired with certain skills, enables Naoe to “freely ping-pong between enemies until they’re dead,” as our colleague Tyler Colp puts it.
