Last Thursday saw an unexpected surge in orders for Bigscreen’s latest VR headset, the Beyond 2. Enthusiasts rushed to place their orders, and astonishingly, this sleek and lightweight device surpassed the sales of its predecessor, Beyond 1, by a significant margin. In just 24 hours, Beyond 2 matched sales that took six months for the first model to achieve.
The buzz around this launch wasn’t without reason. Within a mere 25 minutes, Beyond 2 had already outstripped the first day’s sales of Beyond 1. By the hour’s end, sales had doubled. And impressively, after just 10 hours, Beyond 2 had outperformed the first four months’ sales of Beyond 1.
On Friday, via a post on X, Darshan Shankar, the visionary behind Bigscreen, unveiled the most striking sales figure yet. “In the first 24 hours, Beyond 2 has sold ten times more than what Beyond 1 achieved on its debut day two years ago. Our latest model’s first-day sales equal six months’ worth of the original’s sales,” Shankar shared. Quite a remarkable accomplishment.
Despite these impressive numbers, Shankar pointed out that the company hadn’t invested a dime in advertising. “We didn’t pay influencers to promote our product. We didn’t hire an agency to craft an expensive video. Absolutely no advertising,” he emphasized.
However, a handful of Beyond 2 units did make their way to reviewers for early hands-on experience. Shankar mentioned that they distributed around ten units to a select few, including content creators like Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy.
For those who might have missed the announcement, Beyond 2 is available in two versions: one with eye-tracking capabilities, known as Beyond 2e, and another without. The pricing is set at $1,019 and $1,219 respectively.
While the new model still features dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays like its predecessor, substantial enhancements come in the form of an expanded field-of-view (FOV) and improved clarity. This is achieved through a revamped pancake lens design, boosting the FOV to a 116-degree diagonal, in contrast to the original’s 102-degree. Additionally, it boasts an adjustable IPD mechanism, all in a streamlined 107g design.
Although the initial shipping quotes were set for April (for Beyond 2) and May (for Beyond 2e), anyone placing new orders as of now can expect their devices to ship in June.
