Blade & Sorcery, the beloved VR combat simulator, reached a significant milestone with its massive 1.0 release in June 2024. However, the creator, Warpfrog, is already setting its sights on the next big thing. The upcoming title is expected to be just as open to modding as its highly successful predecessor, which gained a large following thanks to its physics-based combat mechanics.
While details about the new project are still sparse, Warpfrog has confirmed that it will once again venture into the realm of virtual reality. True to the studio’s style, the game will focus heavily on physics-driven interactions and immersive simulation experiences—elements that have become trademarks of Warpfrog’s games.
Blade & Sorcery has set the bar high for mod support by allowing users to tweak the game through manual modifications or using the Nexus Mod Manager. This flexibility lets players tweak minor features, like adding flashy sparks during weapon clashes, or delve deeper by integrating entirely new maps and weapons crafted by other users.
In a discussion with Meta last October, Warpfrog revealed plans to implement a brand-new framework into their next venture. This comes after pushing the limits of the existing one during Blade & Sorcery’s extensive early access period.
“We’ve had to clean up some of the tangled code and innovate from the ground up using new engines,” the studio shared. “Our new framework will be more efficient, designed specifically for our expanded team. It’s a fresh approach as we tackle this new project with a comprehensive team effort, covering everything from start to finish.”
Given Warpfrog’s journey from a solo developer, led by the talented ‘KospY,’ to a formidable team nearly 30 members strong, it’s safe to say expectations are running high.
June’s 1.0 update introduced players to the ‘Crystal Hunt’ story mode, transforming Blade & Sorcery from a mere combat sandbox into a full-fledged adventure game. This new mode brings upgrade systems, a deeper narrative, and a vast, interconnected game world.
Warpfrog’s enthusiasm for the future is palpable. In a recent Steam news update, the team shared their excitement: “The real fun for Warpfrog is just beginning… With the expertise we’ve honed over the past five years, we’re eager to unveil what comes next. Your support has empowered us to take on bigger and bolder projects.”
