Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Set for September Release on Xbox, Closed Alpha Launching This Month

Bungie has finally unveiled its much-anticipated extraction shooter, Marathon, offering us the first proper glimpse into the gameplay. Mark your calendars! This exciting title is set to launch for Xbox Series X and Series S on September 23rd, 2025.

In Marathon, you’ll step into the shoes of a Runner, a cybernetic mercenary boasting unique abilities. Team up with up to two other players to confront hostile AI security forces and competing Runner squads. As you venture through the game, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and gear. Surviving your mission means you get to hang onto everything you’ve collected for future escapades.

Here’s the essence of the gameplay: partnered with your comrades, dive into a zone with the objective to loot to your heart’s content and escape in one piece. Expect to face threats from unforgiving AI security detail and rival teams that you must overpower to succeed. Should you be up for an extra challenge, there’s a solo mode where you can tackle opponents on your own and haul out all the loot by yourself.
