SNEG has finally announced the much-anticipated launch date for “Captain Blood” on the Nintendo Switch.
Originally planned for the Xbox 360 back in 2010, this swashbuckling adventure faced roadblocks when its publisher hit financial troubles, and legal barriers kept the developers from releasing it. Fast forward 15 years, and those issues have finally been resolved.
The story kicks off with a magistrate’s daughter being kidnapped, compelling him to reluctantly hire Captain Blood and his crew for a daring rescue mission. You’re stepping into the boots of “the manliest pirate captain ever,” as you embark on wild escapades filled with cannon blasts, pistol duels, exhilarating sword fights, and all sorts of pirate mischief.
“Captain Blood is a nostalgic nod to a past gaming era,” shares SNEG co-founder Artem Shchuiko. “It’s designed for those weekends when you could lose yourself in a linear, quick-time-event-filled game and still have spare time to debate the specs of upcoming consoles. This project was a labor of love, from the original development team to our folks at SNEG Ltd. We’re thrilled to offer gamers, both seasoned and new, a taste of a classic pirate adventure that many have been yearning for.”
The developer has also highlighted some of the game’s standout features:
Epic Pirate Escapades: Experience the life of the fearless pirate, Captain Blood, along the Spanish Main—or at least do a great job of faking it.
Retro Gaming Feel: With Xbox 360-era graphics, quick-time events, and all the features gamers loved back then, this game is updated just enough to maintain its vintage charm.
Thrilling Battles: Engage in intense hand-to-hand combat, proving your pirate prowess to your enemies with a medley of smooth combat maneuvers.
Ship Deck Clashes: Defend your ship from boarding enemy pirates using special moves, combos, and executions, while reducing their vessels to debris with your cannons!
Awesome Arsenal: Equip yourself with cutlasses, pistols, muskets, throwing knives, and even hand bombs. Don’t overlook those classic pirate tricks!
“Captain Blood” is set to launch digitally on the Nintendo eShop for the Switch on May 6, 2025, so mark your calendars for a pirate adventure that promises to be legendary.
