You can now scale the heights of Mount Olympus in Walkabout Mini Golf, marking an exciting new chapter in the game’s evolving landscape. This latest addition is the 32nd course, arriving after January’s Viva Las Elvis. Studio head Lucas Martell describes it as significantly larger than the previous giant-sized marvel, the Temple At Zerzura from 2023.
Here’s the scoop straight from the team:
High above the Aegean Sea, you’ll find the fabled domain of the gods and goddesses. This is where the Olympians gather to shape the destinies of humans—with a thrilling mini-golf adventure. Your journey takes you through complex temples, mythical scenes, and tricky obstacles. Be cautioned: the Olympian Council will soon assess your skills, deciding whether you’ll be celebrated as a victor or face the ire of the deities!
As you make your way upwards, you’ll pass by temples and shrines that pay homage to the primary figures of Greek mythology, including Zeus, Apollo, and Artemis. Our exclusive tour with Lucas Martell, the visionary behind Walkabout, is our most detailed yet, running a full 28 minutes of insights and behind-the-scenes revelations. Don’t miss it:
Inspired by the success of Viva Las Elvis—which marked the game’s highest sales day in its five-year journey—players are eager to see if Mount Olympus can replicate that magic and encourage further in-game purchases.
I recently sat down with Mighty Coconut’s senior art director, Don Carson, for a deep dive into the game’s creative process. He shared their philosophy of “over-delivering” by using a layered design method. This approach takes over a year, with teams rotating courses among themselves to refine them. Today, the team, affectionately known as the Coconuts, consists of dozens of talented individuals.
For those eager to experience it firsthand, Walkabout is available on all major VR headsets and iOS. Go ahead and explore the mythic greens of Mount Olympus—you might just find yourself feeling like a god.
