FuturLab, the creative minds behind PowerWash Simulator, announced that they’ve stopped backing the game’s virtual reality version.
In a message on BlueSky, Kirsty Rigden, the CEO of the studio, shared some insights. She expressed that despite FuturLab’s strong belief in the potential of VR, the financial reality of working with certain platforms wasn’t favorable. Although the post didn’t specify details, PowerWash Simulator VR had been available on Meta’s Quest 2, 3, and Pro headsets.
“We found ourselves at a crucial decision point,” Rigden explained. “We have an amazing VR team filled with talented and kind individuals, but the platform we’ve been developing on has been more costly than profitable. At the same time, we have various other projects eager for skilled contributors.”
Facing these challenges, the company made a tough call. They chose to reassign their VR team to those other initiatives. “Ideally, I’d love to see PowerWash Simulator available everywhere,” Rigden continued, “but above all, I prioritize the job security of my team. I believe you, too, would make the same choice if you were in my shoes.”
PowerWash Simulator started its journey in 2021 and quickly grew, boasting a player base of over 12 million. The VR version of this popular title was released in November 2023.
