With the Nier series approaching its 15th anniversary next year, fans are eagerly awaiting news of a new installment, and there are hints from the series’ producer that something might be on the horizon for 2025.
I must confess, I wasn’t an early adopter of the Nier series. My journey began with the 2017 release of “Nier: Automata,” a game that quickly turned me into a dedicated fan. Fast forward nearly eight years, and the enthusiasm for Automata remains strong, with over nine million copies sold, as the official Nier Twitter recently celebrated. While that’s certainly a milestone worth cheering, what fans are really yearning for is a fresh addition to the series. The mobile game “Nier: Reincarnation” has already been phased out, much to the disappointment of those looking for more story content. However, there’s a glimmer of hope on the horizon. Yosuke Saito, the producer behind Nier, hinted at a possible announcement next year, offering fans a reason to remain optimistic.
In an end-of-year interview with 4Gamer.net, Saito talked about the series, revealing his intentions to mark Nier’s 15th anniversary with something significant. “2025 will be a milestone year as it marks the 15th anniversary of the Nier series, so I’d like to do something for it! What should we do… maybe something with the next game, or developments related to that… I’ve been hearing the fans’ expectations. It’s a bit tricky, though… That said, as I’ll likely be doing less direct work as a producer, I’d appreciate it if you could patiently look forward to what’s coming,” he shared.
While these comments aren’t a guarantee of a new game, I’m thrilled at the possibility! As someone who treasures Square Enix gems like Nier and Kingdom Hearts, any sliver of news is exciting. Fingers crossed that Saito is hinting at something more substantial than another mobile project destined for a short run. Let’s stay optimistic and look forward to what’s next for Nier enthusiasts.
