Intel isn’t stopping with their "Battlemage" dGPUs; they’re full steam ahead with their next-gen "Celestial & Druid" architectures as scheduled.
Intel Prepares to Make Waves in the Desktop GPU Arena with Future Releases
With Intel poised to drop their Battlemage architecture by mid-December, the chatter has shifted to what their roadmap looks like for desktop GPUs. Given Intel’s recent "sluggish" business moves and the not-so-stellar performance of their past GPUs, speculation is rife. However, according to the well-known leaker @jaykihn0, Intel’s plans for the Celestial and Druid GPU lines remain firmly in place.
In a tweet, @jaykihn0 clarified, "Last dGPU? Desktop Celestial and Druid are as planned as ever. I’m afraid you’ve gotten Intel’s commitment to laptop dGPUs and desktop dGPUs mixed up."
In subsequent comments, the leaker emphasized Intel’s resolve to keep up with regular desktop GPU releases while simultaneously ramping up their "laptop iGPUs" to a level where they can rival desktop versions. This suggests a strategic focus on enhancing their mobile GPUs, though they’re not abandoning their standalone desktop GPUs.
Looking ahead to the Celestial series, it’s set to replace the Battlemage lineup and will showcase the "Xe3" architecture. Details on the specs remain scarce at this point. As for the "Druid" line, it’s expected to come with the "Xe-Next" architecture, taking on competitors from potentially two generations beyond. This indicates that Intel is far from exiting the desktop GPU arena; they’re gearing up for more action.
Currently, excitement builds around Intel’s impending Arc Battlemage SKUs, anticipated to drop soon. These releases will offer a clearer picture of the direction Team Blue plans to take with its desktop GPUs moving forward.
