The Seattle-based game studio, Jar of Sparks, recently informed their team that they’re putting a hold on their first project while they search for a new publishing partner. Studio founder Jerry Hook shared this update in a LinkedIn post, expressing pride in the project’s progress up to this point. Initially launched in July 2024 with financial backing from China’s entertainment powerhouse, NetEase, it seems the company has withdrawn its publishing support for the studio’s inaugural game.
“Our journey has been fueled by a team that’s not only passionate and driven but also willing to take bold risks to push the envelope,” Hook elaborated. “We’ve been striving to craft a gaming experience that’s genuinely fresh and thrilling for the industry.”
He continued, “The foundation we’ve built makes us incredibly proud. As we move forward, our talented team is looking into new opportunities. If you’re seeking professionals who are innovative and think beyond conventional limits, please reach out—we’d love to connect you with some of the most skilled developers I’ve had the honor to work with.”
This announcement marks the second instance in recent months where a NetEase-backed studio has paused work. Back in November, Worlds Untold also announced it was halting development on its first game.
