Jagex, the creator of the beloved game RuneScape, has announced Jon Bellamy as its new CEO. He steps into the shoes of Phil Mansell, who’s been at the helm since 2017. Bellamy is no stranger to Jagex; he was part of the company from 2015 to 2018, contributing to the strategy and mergers & acquisitions team. More recently, his career includes stints at London Venture Partners and nearly five years at Huuuge Games, where he ended up as the chief commercial officer.
Bellamy’s experience doesn’t stop there. He’s been an advisor for companies like Pixion, Kohort, Stealth, Maximillian, and even Jagex’s owner, CVC. He’s also been on the board at Jagex since last October, putting him in an excellent position to understand the company’s needs.
Taking on this new role, Bellamy expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s an incredible honor to lead Jagex and support a franchise that resonates deeply with millions, myself included. I’m eager to collaborate with the fantastic team, whom I know well from my board days, to maintain our status as industry leaders. I’ll be spending some time with the team to refine our goals and will soon share my vision with the RuneScape community.”
Phil Mansell shared his thoughts on the transition, stating, “After a remarkable 14-year journey with RuneScape and eight years as Jagex’s CEO, it’s time for me to pass the baton to Jon Bellamy. It’s been a privilege working with such a talented team, growing the company and its player base, and establishing Jagex as a leader in community-driven gaming. I’m thrilled to hand over to a leader who shares my dedication to our games and our business. I look forward to supporting Jon as he builds on the strong foundation we’ve laid.”
