Mortal Kombat has gained its reputation over the years not just for its intense violence and graphic content but also for the intriguing secrets it holds. For over three decades, Ed Boon, one of the masterminds behind the series, has delightfully hidden secret characters—often those cool palette-swapped ninjas—into the games. It looks like Boon and his team might be gearing up to introduce yet another mysterious ninja to Mortal Kombat 1: say hello to Floyd.
Yes, you heard it right, Floyd—like Pink Floyd. Back in 2022, Boon humorously replied to a fan on Twitter during a casual exchange, expressing his interest in creating a pink ninja named Floyd. This isn’t entirely out of character for Boon; remember, he’s the same guy who brought a purple ninja named Rain to life due to his admiration for Prince.
Now, it seems Floyd is about to make his grand entrance. Players who’ve had the privilege of previewing Mortal Kombat 1’s latest DLC character, Conan the Barbarian, have noticed some intriguing clues that hint at Floyd’s impending appearance. However, the way this pink ninja will step onto the scene remains wrapped in mystery.
The first sign of Floyd’s entry into the Mortal Kombat world was spotted by a fighting game YouTuber known as Super. While playing as Conan on the well-known Living Forest stage, Super noticed Floyd’s name accompanied by a striking electric guitar riff occasionally flashing on the screen at the end of fights. The Living Forest stage is notorious for featuring secret characters like Jade and Smoke from Mortal Kombat 2, adding more weight to the theory of Floyd’s imminent arrival.
However, players are still in the dark about how to encounter—or perhaps even play as—Floyd. Despite his observations, Super didn’t actually meet the elusive pink ninja during his gameplay sessions.
Mortal Kombat 1 already boasts a robust lineup of ninja characters. The game’s primary roster includes all the iconic male ninjas like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Rain, Reptile, Smoke, Noob Saibot, and Ermac. Additionally, it features Kameo Fighter versions of Tremor, Khameleon, Frost, Cyrax, Sektor, and classic iterations of Sub-Zero and Scorpion.
