MSI has stepped forward to address the swirling rumors about a recall of NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 graphics cards, categorically denying any truth to the claims and pointing out that the source of this rumor isn’t one of their authorized retailers.
In recent news, reports out of the Netherlands suggested NVIDIA was pulling back its GeForce RTX 5090s over concerns about a “fire hazard,” allegedly linked to an MSI SUPRIM variant. This created quite a buzz, sparking widespread discussion and perhaps giving MSI cause for concern. Responding swiftly, MSI issued a statement aiming to set the record straight:
“We were caught off guard on March 6, 2025, by an article on the Kitguru website that claimed a Dutch retailer, UW GAME SPECIALIST, had told a customer they couldn’t process an order for five of our GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC cards due to a supposed recall citing fire hazards,” MSI’s statement explained.
MSI firmly denied these rumors, emphasizing, “These allegations are completely unfounded, no recall program is underway, and our products pose no such risks. Moreover, this retailer isn’t affiliated with MSI, and we don’t conduct business with them.”
MSI made it clear they’re contemplating legal action against those spreading these false and damaging claims, as well as any parties furthering these unsubstantiated rumors.
For consumers, MSI advises purchasing through authorized resellers, which includes Megekko, Azerty, and Coolblue, among others, to ensure you’re getting verified products.
This clarification from MSI puts to bed the rumors of another potential issue with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090. Given the recent challenges faced by Team Green with the RTX 50 series, including supply chain issues and technical faults like missing ROPs and black screen incidents, this reassurance is much needed.
Regular users of the RTX 5090 can breathe a sigh of relief; MSI confirms there’s no fire hazard concern. However, they still advise users to ensure proper installation of their RTX Blackwell GPUs to avoid any mishaps.
