Sony has rolled out a significant update for the PlayStation VR2 App, now enabling users to enjoy their SteamVR content with improved ease and performance. This update specifically addresses those pesky controller tracking issues that have frustrated gamers since the app’s inception.
With version 3.0 of the PlayStation VR2 App, a nifty new feature called “Bluetooth Connection Quality” has been introduced. This tool is designed to give users clearer insights into how seamlessly their controllers communicate with the computer, offering a big help in troubleshooting.
Back when the app first debuted in August 2024, it heralded the exciting opportunity for PSVR 2 users to dive into the world of SteamVR games. However, this came with a raft of user complaints centered around controller tracking problems. The crux of the issue stems from the fact that the necessary PSVR 2 PC adapter doesn’t provide a direct hub for controllers; instead, they must connect using standard Bluetooth.
This isn’t a trivial setup. Bluetooth adapters, notorious for their varying quality, can be affected by their placement in the computer and interference from nearby devices. Such elements can seriously compromise the connection quality.
To tackle these concerns, Sony has provided a list of officially supported Bluetooth adapters and a guide for troubleshooting connection hiccups. Despite this, some users continue to report problems even when using recommended equipment.
The new v3.0 update introduces a “Check Bluetooth Connection Quality” feature. This addition is intended to demystify whether poor controller tracking is due to Bluetooth limitations. Armed with this information, gamers can better pinpoint if the cause lies with Bluetooth or perhaps external factors like reflective surfaces or tricky lighting environments.
Additionally, this update has resolved a bug that caused delays in controller vibrations, alongside general performance and stability enhancements to the app.
This follows the v2.5 update, launched last December, which also aimed to highlight Bluetooth issues. It introduced alerts to notify users of any detected connectivity problems, paving the way for smoother gaming experiences.
