Nintendo is finally putting an end to all the buzz and whispers by unveiling the Nintendo Switch 2 this week. For a while, gamers worldwide have been glued to every rumor and leak, eagerly anticipating more concrete news.
The hint about this exciting development comes from none other than the well-regarded insider, Nate. During his latest episode of the Nate the Hate Podcast, he dropped some intriguing tidbits about Nintendo’s grand plan for their next-gen portable console. Jump to the 17-minute and 36-second mark, and you’ll hear all the juicy details.
“I’m letting you in on a little secret: Nintendo plans to lift the curtain on the Switch 2 next week,” Nate revealed. “I’ve been informed that the big day is set for Thursday, January 16.”
He went on to describe how this reveal was just around the corner from when the podcast would go live. While Nate has caught wind of some specifics that might surface during this reveal, he admits they’re incomplete and a bit baffling. Perhaps, though, things will click into place when we can see it all for ourselves.
The primary spotlight during this event is anticipated to be on the console itself. “You won’t be seeing many games featured,” Nate elaborates. “We might catch a game or two displayed either on the console’s screen or maybe on a TV. But, don’t expect much in terms of software showcase. So, if you notice a lack of game titles in the trailer, don’t be too taken aback.”
Drawing parallels with the October 2016 reveal, Nate continues, “Back then, while there was a strong focus on the games, this time won’t likely be quite the same. That first glimpse included teasers for games like [The Legend of Zelda] Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, [The Elder Scrolls V] Skyrim, NBA 2K[18], and Splatoon 2, albeit unnamed at the time.”
Nate anticipates a simpler showcase, more along the lines of, “Here’s the system, here’s some features, check out the new Joy-Con, maybe catch a glimpse of the packaging,” and definitely expect the new logo to pop up.
From what Nate has gathered, there’s a plan for a deeper dive into the games towards late February or perhaps early March, assuming everything aligns. This future showcase is when Nintendo intends to highlight games – both third-party and their own. “I find it hard to imagine they’d introduce new hardware without showcasing at least one game.”
Amidst this swirl of rumors, what we do officially know is that Nintendo is committed to introducing the next-gen system by the end of March 2025. It’s confirmed to be backward compatible with its predecessor.
So, by March 31, 2025, we should all have a good look at what the Nintendo Switch 2 offers, and word is, it’ll hit the shelves globally sometime in the same year.
