Nearly ten weeks have slipped by since Pokemon TCG Pocket launched, and it seems the game is already raking in a whopping $400 million in gross revenue. This impressive figure was highlighted by Aaron Astle over at PocketGamer.biz, who sourced the data from AppMagic’s analytics.
Diving into the numbers, AppMagic revealed that Japan plays a crucial role in this financial success, contributing a hefty 43% of the total earnings all by itself. Additionally, player spending has shown a gentle uptick, with an estimated 1% rise since the initial two weeks.
So, what’s fueling this ongoing growth and the steady march towards that billion-dollar landmark? In my view, it’s all about the game’s relentless updates. It’s not just the major overhauls like the recent Mythical Island card expansion that capture attention, but also the continual rollout of limited-time events that keep players engaged. Right now, the game is concluding a big Mythical Island PvP event. Simultaneously, there’s a PvE event offering unique rewards like a special Blastoise, alongside other exclusive card variants. Plus, the Wonder Pick event is tempting frequent players with special versions of Charmander and Squirtle.
When players make the habit of logging in frequently, the game becomes woven into their daily routines. With the game deeply integrated into their lives, they’re often more inclined to spend real money on it. Add to this the newly introduced discount packs of premium currency that rolled out during the New Year period, and you have a perfect setup for a steady cash stream.
Of course, it doesn’t hurt that Pokemon TCG Pocket is just a stellar game. Sure, MewTwo EX continues to dominate the top tier, but there’s plenty of space for creativity and experimentation, making the game an engaging and enjoyable experience on mobile.
