Ever since Alienware rolled out its new $899.99 AW2725Q 4K OLED gaming monitor, my perspective on the price people should be willing to pay for a 1440p OLED display has shifted. I once thought that an $800 price tag was reasonable, but now, I’d say something closer to $500 is more on the mark. Take Samsung’s Odyssey G6, for instance. This solid 1440p OLED monitor has seen its price slashed to $549.99 from the original $799.99.
For most gamers, 1440p, or QHD as it’s also known, is the sweet spot in terms of resolution. This is largely because you don’t need to break the bank on top-tier PC components to enjoy most games. Of course, you still need decent hardware—think of something like the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti for 2025. The Odyssey G6 boasts a 240 Hz maximum refresh rate and supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro along with Nvidia G-Sync compatibility, meaning you won’t suffer from irritating screen tearing. Plus, it comes with a three-year warranty that covers burn-in from normal use.
What caught my attention about the Samsung model is its current price of $549.99, which is the same as what Alienware plans for its upcoming 27-inch 1440p OLED monitor set to release this summer. However, Alienware isn’t entirely set on this price due to potential impacts from the recent tariffs on products imported from China to the U.S. The bright side here is that with Samsung’s monitor already discounted, you don’t need to hold off until summer to see how the pricing situation pans out.
