Even though it’s been over ten years since its predecessor hit the shelves, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is impressively true to the original. The first Space Marine became a cult classic, and fans have long awaited a revamp. Just in time for Black Friday, Space Marine 2 has physical copies on sale for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. It’s the best deal we’ve seen for the game on any platform so far. Although the PC version doesn’t see quite as steep a discount, Fanatical is offering Steam codes at $52.79, down from the usual $59.99.
Space Marine 2 opts for a no-frills approach, which sets it apart from other top-tier action games that often include unnecessary extravagances. Set in the war-torn future of the 41st millennium, where conflict is endless, players step back into the boots of Titus. This Ultramarine, devoted to serving the Emperor of Mankind, is dusting off the cobwebs after centuries of inactivity.
The Warhammer 40,000 universe is famously intricate, and I have personally delved into a myriad of codices, rulebooks, and novels spanning millennia to grasp the origins of the Space Marines. I also keep up with fan theories online. What stands out about Space Marine 2 is how friendly it is for newcomers, allowing them to dive right in without the need to continuously look up story details. Yet, it immerses players in the iconic Warhammer 40K atmosphere. From the mechanical cherubs to the machine-cult aspirants on Titus’ battle barge, the game fully embraces the grandeur, the gothic vibes, and, at times, the outrageous style of the Imperium of Man and its Imperial Guard.
But it’s the combat that truly steals the spotlight. Titus plows through waves of Tyranids, tearing them apart with his gauntlets and crushing them underfoot. Equipped with some entertaining weapons like a flamethrower for toasting Rippers or a laser sniper rifle, the game offers a thrilling ride.
