It seems like fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 are in for a treat as new content is set to drop next year. Despite the fact that many fans aren’t quite ready to move on from their current playthroughs, Larian Studios is preparing to add fresh features that will undoubtedly entice die-hard enthusiasts to dive in for an eleventh adventure. Personally, I’m still trying to wrap up my first run!
Recently, the news broke through the game’s social media and a blog post on Steam: Baldur’s Gate 3 hasn’t seen its final major update just yet. You might recall the folks at Larian previously mentioned they were wrapping up work on this massive RPG, but much like the teams behind Terraria and Binding of Isaac, they’ve found themselves returning for more. It seems they can’t quite let go either!
Even though Baldur’s Gate 3 is buzzing with a variety of user-generated mods, Larian isn’t about to stop showering their fans with gifts. Next year’s Patch 8 promises to be the ultimate finisher, introducing features fans have been clamoring for: cross-play, a photo mode, and twelve new subclasses. The photo mode has long been a popular request, while cross-play is a delightful surprise, transforming BG3 into the ultimate social game experience for all to enjoy. The addition of new subclasses suggests players might be diving into character customization yet again. Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts are certainly celebrating!
The cross-play feature is set to deliver “full cross-platform progression, including cross-play.” Players will be able to create and share lobbies across platforms, although it remains unclear if these lobbies can be made public for random players.
Speaking of the photo mode, it’s packed with a plethora of options: camera and lens adjustments, scene modifiers like poses and facial expressions, post-processing effects, frames, and even stickers. We can only imagine the creative chaos dedicated gamers will unleash, especially when combining these tools with mods.
On top of everything, Patch 8 introduces a new subclass for each of the 12 classes. Curious to know more? We’ve listed them below, but for the full scoop, be sure to check out the official post.
– Bard – College of Glamour
– Barbarian – Path of Giants
– Cleric – Death Domain
– Druid – Circle of Stars
– Paladin – Oath of the Crown
– Fighter – Arcane Archer
– Monk – Drunken Master

Additionally, “stress tests” are scheduled for January to iron out the details of cross-play and bring in another batch of fixes with Patch 8. This likely pushes the final release to February 2025. As always, we’ll keep you informed with the latest updates as they roll out.
