If you’re an NVIDIA enthusiast eagerly awaiting the chance to snag the RTX 5090 or 5080 GPUs from Overclockers UK, you might need to exercise a bit more patience. Securing these highly coveted graphics cards could take several weeks, or perhaps even months.
In what many are calling a classic “paper launch,” NVIDIA’s introduction of the RTX 50 series didn’t quite meet expectations. Many retailers, including some major ones, received either an extremely limited supply or none at all of the RTX 5090s. Those lucky few who had any in stock saw them vanish almost instantly upon release. Even the RTX 5080, though slightly more accessible, suffered a similar fate due to its inability to offer a substantial generational upgrade.
For those still holding out hope, Overclockers UK has reported that all available units of the RTX 5090 and 5080 have sold out, and they have halted pre-orders for both models. This means eager buyers can’t even secure their spot in line on the website right now. So, when could we possibly expect to see them back in stock?
According to Overclockers UK, the RTX 5090 might take anywhere from 3 to 16 weeks to return to shelves, whereas the RTX 5080 could be back in a shorter span of 2 to 6 weeks. If you’re dreaming of owning the 5090, you might have to wait until around May 2025, by which time NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 are expected to have already made their market entrance, with the 5070 Ti launching on February 20th and the 5070 scheduled for March.
A recent statement from Overclockers UK highlights the overwhelming demand and subsequent limited stock that led to the rapid sell-out:
“RTX 50 Series Stock Update 31/01/2025 – Stock Update – RTX 5090 sold out and pre-orders ceased, RTX 5080 sold out and pre-orders ceased. Due to incredibly high demand and limited stock, all 50 Series cards sold shortly after launch with only a few pre-orders available. Stock ETAs are as follows:
– RTX 5090 ETA: 3-16 Weeks
– RTX 5080 ETA: 2-6 Weeks”
Despite the RTX 5080 having slightly better availability globally, it still left many empty-handed. Customers were drawn in droves, not just because of its performance, but partly due to its appealing price point aligning closely with the RTX 4080 Super, making it a hot-ticket item nonetheless.
In some cases, the demand was so intense that people camped outside stores, and some retailers even resorted to issuing lottery tickets just for the chance to purchase these premium GPUs—showing just how fervent the rush for these cards has been. Currently, if you’ve pre-ordered an RTX 50 from Overclockers UK but haven’t gotten a confirmation email, your order might still be lingering in the queue.
It’s this pressure that has led Overclockers UK to halt pre-orders for the time being. While it remains uncertain how quickly these cards will restock elsewhere, it seems a broad restock won’t be happening anytime soon.
