Valve isn’t jumping straight into launching a brand new version of the Steam Deck just yet. However, fans will have something to look forward to with the upcoming Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition in a sleek white design.
This special edition, officially known as the “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” maintains the same specifications as the existing 1TB model. But at $679, it comes with a slight price bump of $30. Mark your calendars, because it hits the shelves next Monday, November 18.
Accompanying the white and gray color scheme, this limited version also includes a matching white carrying case, plus a microfiber cloth to keep everything clean and polished.
Valve has dabbled in color variants before, notably with the release of the Steam Deck OLED featuring a smoky translucent shell. Despite its popularity, this earlier edition faced issues with minor aesthetic cracks. This time around, the white edition is set to be available in all current Steam Deck markets. This includes regions like the United States, Canada, the UK, Europe, and newer markets such as Australia, alongside partners in Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea. Stocks will be proportionally allocated to each area.
To prevent scalping, Valve is only allowing one white Steam Deck per account. Plus, your Steam account needs at least one purchase dating back before November 2024.
Valve mentioned in a press release that this second limited edition OLED model is part of a strategy to gauge interest in different colors, which will influence future color variants: “We’re curious to see what the response is, and will use what we learn to inform future decisions about any potential new color variants down the line.”
If you’re eager to personalize your Deck but aren’t set on the limited edition, companies like Jsaux and dbrand offer various skins and backplates. But if you prefer sticking with official releases, grab one as soon as they’re up for sale – these are limited after all!
Beyond colors and regular software updates, Valve hinted at ongoing developments related to the Steam Deck and other upcoming hardware plans.
From the photos, I’m getting a nostalgic vibe, reminiscent of a cross between the Wii U and an iPod. It’ll be interesting to see if this fresh look can tempt existing owners into upgrading.
